Allt för sjön’s work with the UN’s Global Goals for a more sustainable boating life
As Sweden’s largest Boat Fair with 60,000 visitors each year, sustainability is an important and essential part of our operations. The UN’s 17 Global Goals are the most ambitious agenda for sustainable development that countries around the world have ever adopted, aimed at achieving four amazing things by 2030: eradicating extreme poverty. To reduce inequalities and injustices in the world. To promote peace and justice. Solving the climate crisis. Four amazing goals that we certainly want to contribute to achieving.
The Global Goals can make this a reality. We have worked through the 17 goals and 169 targets and identified three goals that are prioritized for Allt för sjön.
Goal 6: Clean water and sanitation for all
Water is a fundamental requirement for all life on Earth, and therefore also essential for human health and sustainable development. Water is also essential for global food production and energy generation, and water scarcity can therefore be a cause of conflict, both within and between countries. However, water is not necessarily a source of conflict; water resources can also act as a unifying force that strengthens cooperation and creates solutions for peace.
One in three people worldwide currently live without access to basic sanitation, causing illness and creating an unhealthy environment that particularly affects people living in poverty. In particular, women and girls are affected as they often bear the responsibility for the family’s water supply, leading to lost income opportunities and missed school days. Access to clean water and sanitation for all is fundamental to human health and development.

Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources, but humans have not utilized them responsibly, consuming far beyond what our planet can sustain. For example, did you know that 1/3 of the food produced is wasted? Achieving sustainable development requires us to reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume goods and resources.
Sustainable consumption not only brings environmental benefits but also social and economic advantages such as increased competitiveness, growth in both local and global markets, higher employment rates, improved health, and reduced poverty. Transitioning to sustainable consumption and production of goods is a necessity to reduce our negative impact on climate, environment and human health.

Goal 14: Sea and Marine resources
Without clean seas and waterways, there would be no boating life. At Allt för sjön, we provide organizations with a platform and support them in reaching a broader audience. We consciously highlight exhibitors who are actively engaged in environmental efforts, giving them visibility on our website and social media platforms.
Action points for Agenda 2030:
➔ Highlight the new ways of “owning” a boat through boat rental, chartering, boat pooling, and co-ownership.
➔ Focus on sailing for diversity and fossil-free transport.
The world’s oceans—their temperature, chemistry, currents, and life—drive global systems that make Earth habitable for humanity. The oceans cover 70 percent of our planet, and over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. How we manage our oceans is crucial for humanity as a whole and for balancing the effects of climate change.
Overfishing, acidification, toxins, and pollution are some of the problems affecting our oceans today. Did you know, for example, that eight million tons of plastic end up in the oceans each year? At the current rate, oceans are projected to contain more plastic than fish by 2050. We must protect our oceans and ensure sustainable use of marine resources and ecosystems. We have always needed the oceans. Now, the oceans need us.
